research & information skills training

Any organisation that hasn’t got access to good information is flying blind.

If it doesn’t know what’s going on in its field, what its partners and competitors are doing - and what’s round the next corner - it’s taking a big risk.

Research and information skills training can benefit decision makers, managers, researchers,

personal assistants - as well as information officers and corporate librarians.

I’ve been training people in how to manage and exploit their information efficiently for 30 years, working with public, private and not-for-profit organisations.

I can help people set up an information service for their organisation, run it efficiently, deal with unanticipated enquiries, get value for money out of the information they invest in, and package their services so decision makers recognise their value.

I’ve also written the classic textbook on the subject - Successful Enquiry Answering Every Time.

My own career has encompassed information management, writing, editing, training, government policy advice and corporate media & marketing. I’ve worked in local government, quangos, the not-for-profit sector and for commercial publishers and consultants.

‘Knew his material inside out and was immediately and constantly aware of his attendees.’

And why the ocean liner?

The picture on the home page, showing the final departure of Queen Elizabeth II from Southampton on 11 November 2008, is a great metaphor for good training.

There’s never an end, just a new beginning, and the best way to sail forward into the future is in a blaze of glory.
